Dear Friends and Community Members:
As we all begin to unravel ourselves from one of the most challenging times in our contemporary history; adjusting to the new normal amidst an unprecedented pandemic era, Sammy’s Place still moves steadily forward to build team capacity and finalize the Thompson Road land feasibility study. These early studies will tell us what the land truly holds so we know in fact how to move forward with the best intentions for the community.
This time also brings a nostalgic feeling because many of us have not seen each other since our last Buddy Walk at the Beach in 2017. We remember the many dances on the riverfront with full food ‘n festivities, music, and drumming, and marching in t-shirt-colored-unison to the annual picture on the beach to promote all the great things that are possible! So many fun times, good people, and conversations filled with imagination and big visions: Big dreams of land, housing, and more employment, and recreation opportunities for all.
Today, our immediate goals beyond finalizing the cleanup and feasibility study of the Thompson Road property are to hire staff who can take the lead on our projects and elevate our work from an all-volunteer base. Our work has developed into two areas: 1) Thompson Road Project, with sights set on creating attainable co-housing using the close to downtown Nehalem proximity to highlight the home and community-based support model for living and working. 2) Oregon COAAST Network: Communities of All Abilities Succeeding Together which works to keep individuals, families, and supporters tied together through a network of training, awareness, sharing, resources, and support. Both areas of work take a great deal of intention, personal involvement, and passion.
Currently, we are appealing to regional foundations who support creating attainable housing and facilitate options within communities so all individuals and families of all abilities can live, work, and thrive together. You, our grassroots supporters, have been with us since we began this dream and are a very important piece of this journey’s success. It is your stories we work to support.
Our team is raising $50k and invites you to join us by making a financial contribution so we can finalize the cleanup and feasibility study, and hire a leader for our projects who will elevate our work from an all-volunteer base. We are appealing to regional foundations that support creating attainable housing and facilitate options within communities so all individuals and families of all abilities can live, work, and thrive together. You, our grassroots supporter, have been with us since the beginning and are a very important piece of this journey’s success and we thank you!
Thank you for your consideration of this request and your continued support of our mission, our community, and our organization.
